defining the task shaped the church

Equipped by the Church

Jesus gave the command to make disciples to the Church—not to organizations, not to individuals acting alone, but to the local body of believers.

At GSI, we exist to come alongside churches as they equip, send, and care for workers who will take the gospel to unreached language groups—places where there is no church and no access to Scripture.

What does it mean to be equipped by the church?

To be equipped by the church is more than preparation—it is formation.

It means a prepared worker is:

  • Known and affirmed by their local church leadership
  • Grounded in Scripture and biblical theology
  • Tested in character and faithfulness
  • Sent with ongoing care and accountability

Equipping is not a one-time event. It is a long-term relationship between the worker and the church.

GSI's Role

GSI does not replace the church, we come alongside.

Ways GSI equips the church for sending workers:

  • Missions 101 and 102 (link) to explain foundations, goals, and equipping
  • Coaching for caring for workers well
  • Senders’ Forum resources (link) to learn from others that are sending

All of this is done in partnership with sending churches, helping them carry out their responsibility well.

The End Goal

The goal is a healthy church.

We labor toward:

  • The gospel understood in the people's primary language
  • Believers gathered and discipled
  • Local leaders raised up & elders appointed
  • A healthy church established

And from there, the missions continues.
