7 questions to ask your church about missions

Are you ready to be sent out overseas to be a church planter? Here are 7 questions to ask your church about missions before you go.

Take a moment to answer “yes” or “no” to the following questions:

  1. Is your church aware of its mission to people groups where the gospel has not gone?
  2. Does your church have a clear plan for local AND global ministry?
  3. Is globally focused prayer encouraged and practiced at your church?
  4. Is global missions a priority in every aspect of your church’s ministries?
  5. Is an annual missions celebration focusing on your church’s local and global ministry one of the most exciting events in the life of your church?
  6. Does your church’s giving to global missions reflect the high priority God places on reaching the nations?
  7. Is your church equipped to engage in global missions with a plan to equip and empower the global servants God raises up out of your church?

If you answered “No,” to three or more of the questions asked above, your church may need some coaching regarding prioritizing missions. Global Serve International can help with a simple solution:

Equip. Empower. Engage. Impact.

Global Serve International equips the worldwide church to empower all God’s people from all professions to engage in God’s Global Story to make an eternal impact.

Life is an epic story.

God is the author and His Story spans all of history.

It is the epic narrative of the salvation of all peoples—people from every nation, tribe, and tongue—for His glory.

God has given the church a leading role in the Story.

One of the most familiar passages emphasizing the church’s role is the command of Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20, known as the Great Commission:

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

Jesus has a mission for His people. To go and make disciples of all nations, or ethnic groups.

This mission is echoed in Acts 1:8, and Jesus makes it clear that the local church is His chosen vehicle to fulfill the mission, from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth. From local ministry to global ministry.

So God’s mission is the salvation of all nations and His chosen instrument to fulfill this mission is the local church. Unfortunately, too many local churches are not equipped to fulfill this mission.

Too many churches are not involved in any type of global outreach and do not have any regular commitment to a missionary sent from their congregation. If they do, often the mission work or missionary is “outsourced” to a mission agency.

Though Global Serve International is a mission agency, we still believe in God’s original plan for the redemption of the nations: the local church.

The local church, no matter what the size or where it’s located, is called to engage in God’s Global Story.

Compelled by Christ’s commands, we prioritize efforts to multiply disciples and churches among unreached people groups, and we exist solely to come alongside the local church and help equip her to fulfill her mission of making disciples of all nations..

We want to equip the local church to send healthy cross-cultural servants who will thrive on the mission field and achieve long-term effective service overseas in reaching the nations.

That is why we are dedicated to equip missions committees and elderships with the tools and expertise they need for effective missions leadership. We do this through providing custom missions coaching, Global Impact workshops, and specialized training.

Today, churches are sending out missionaries that are facing a new world with new challenges.

Too often there is not a clearly defined understanding between the church and their missionaries regarding the work that needs to be done on the foreign field. Churches need to understand and experience the preparation that a missionary needs to receive in order to properly equip and steward their mission work.

Missions should no longer be just a program for the church, it should be a priority.

Global Serve International wants to see your church be effective and strategic in “making disciples of all nations,” engaging in God’s Global Story, and making an eternal impact.
